When Missing Loved Ones Becomes a Lifestyle
I grew up missing people. My father was a company homo — a corporate nomad — so when information technology came time to move again, we packed up and went where the career opportunities led him.
The only place he ever declined to move was Utah. That's because no one in their right mind agrees to move to Utah. (Hey, no offense.)
Growing upward, I missed friends, neighbors, and classmates across half-dozen states. Relationships were temporary. Living hundreds of miles from relatives, we visited them once or twice a yr. For seven years, my dad worked second shift so he could climb that corporate ladder; often I missed him, too.
When I attended college, naturally it was out-of-state. Then, I landed a corporate task much like his and connected the nomadic lifestyle of corporate relocations and missing people.
Once I became a parent, even so, I sought to ensure that my ain daughter didn't grow up missing people she loved. I wanted to give her the souvenir of being "from" somewhere. I wanted to requite her the gift of not continually feeling loss or separation from all that was familiar.
We now live a stone's throw from my parents and other family. Corporate nomads somewhen observe their haven, and it'southward rarely at the elevation of the organizational ladder.

Where is your oasis?

I met my soulmate while living in Europe as a teenager. Nosotros'd spend ours days dreaming about a future together. Just, her family abruptly left the country and disappeared. The twenty-four hour period I watched her board the plane crying is among the worst days of my life.
We knew we'd probably never see each other again and promised to always remember, and detect each other in the next life.
In the years since, I've searched, but never establish any trace of her.
And, while my life went on, I've never forgotten her.
The song that ever makes me stop and remember about her and what could have been is "Who Wants to Live Forever" past Queen. Like in the song, nosotros just weren't fated to be together. But, we had our 1 sugariness moment - our forever.

Some nice writing and some adept tunes.
The juxtaposition of songs nigh existent, raw bodily emotion to some of the made upward nonsense apropos "micro-aggressions" on college campuses today is startling. We used to use things like music to cope with anxiety and depression. Then we moved to drugging virtually a whole social club and now we are beginning to run into a generation that act as if they are so fragile you tin't even ask where they were born for fearfulness of hurting their feelings.
